UK ICP Sinewave Launches Specialised EV Arm to Connect CPOs and Fleets to the Grid

Together, Sinewave and Amplify provide consultancy, design, supply, installation, and maintenance for EV infrastructure.

Lloyds-accredited independent connection provider (ICP) Sinewave has launched a new dedicated EV business called Amplify.

Amplify will expand on Sinewave’s core offering, which includes high and low voltage electrical services for infrastructure projects across the UK. Sinewave delivers turnkey electrical solutions up to 400kV, and with the launch of Amplify, aims to bring the “entire value chain together.”

Together, Sinewave and Amplify now provide consultancy, design, supply, installation, operations, and maintenance services for EV infrastructure projects, specifically tailored to chargepoint operators (CPOs) and fleet operators.

Connecting EV Infrastructure to the Grid

Grid connections remain one of the major challenges in EV infrastructure rollout. The creation of a dedicated EV-focused business arm within a proven ICP like Sinewave is a logical move, especially given Sinewave’s track record of working with distribution network operators (DNOs) and transport operators.

The company has appeared at the Electric Vehicle Innovation and Excellence (EVIE) Awards for multiple years, and won Contractor of the Year (C&I & Public) in 2022.

Grid Pressure and the Path to Net Zero

As readers will know, the UK’s energy grid is under increasing strain due to widespread electrification and decarbonisation. The National Energy System Operator (NESO) is now undergoing major reforms to how transmission and distribution-level connections are managed.

The UK government has stepped in to accelerate grid connections for both data centres and renewable energy projects.

With commercial vehicles contributing one-third of road transport emissions and 12% of the UK’s total carbon footprint, fleet electrification is critical to meeting net zero targets.

In the absence of chargepoint-specific regulations, collaboration between CPOs and ICPs is more essential than ever.

Leadership at Amplify

Amplify’s founding team includes:

  • Adam Woodley – Founder and CEO of Sinewave
  • Stuart Douglas – Former MD of UK CPO PoGo Charge, now Amplify’s Chief Operating Officer
  • Anne Buckingham – Former MD of Evolt Charging and of SIS at SWARCO Smart Charging, now Chief Commercial Officer at Amplify

“It’s clear that market changes are demanding a sharper focus on grid connections and smarter energy management, as well as greater flexibility with supply chain partners,”
said Stuart Douglas, COO of Amplify.
“At Amplify, we intend to apply this learning to build flexible, future-ready EV charging solutions that put energy and the grid at the centre of everything we do.”

“Despite a challenging 18 months, there is opportunity for a reset,”
said Anne Buckingham, CCO of Amplify.
“The ZEV mandate remains, commitments from Government are emerging and private sector interest is returning.
This offers us the opportunity for a reset — to more entrepreneurial and innovative collaborations and technologies, and to focus on partnering, communicating and listening.”
