UK EV charging provider Pod has acquired EO Charging, a fleet charging specialist, after EO entered administration in April. This acquisition, according to Pod, establishes it as the largest EV charging services provider in the UK.
EO Charging’s end-to-end depot charging software will enhance Pod’s offerings, enabling expansion into logistics, transport, and operational fleet environments. Pod already delivers EV charging and energy flexibility across both private and public sectors.
With over 17 years in the EV charging industry, Pod has built a strong customer base in home and workplace charging. Last May, it rebranded from Pod Point to Pod, shifting its focus from hardware to services.
Pod expressed pride in providing a “long term home” for EO’s “heritage, technology and innovation.” The company will integrate EO’s customers, including major retail delivery fleets for Amazon and Tesco, as well as EO’s employees.
The combination of EO’s depot platform with Pod’s smart charging and energy flexibility will allow for integrated depot software, energy supply (in partnership with EDF), smart energy management, and flexibility trading for fleet operators.
Notably, the acquisition did not occur in January, when EO Charging began an accelerated M&A process amid increased merger and acquisition activity in the UK market.
According to PwC, EO’s appointed administrator, EO Charging had been operating at a loss despite additional shareholder funding and a successful fundraising round in November last year.
EO Charging also scaled back its expansion efforts in the US, Australia, New Zealand, and Italy, and sold its domestic EV charger hardware and manufacturing business to Cogent Technologies in November, an area where it previously competed with Pod.
